May 1, 2025R.Madhwal Veteran & FarmerRewriting the Story of Age, Responsibility, and Wisdom in Today’s World In today’s fast-moving world, especially in India, age is often misunderstood. Turning 60 is quietly treated as a finish line — a point where people are expected to slow down, step back, and become less “occupied.” Society still clings to a century-old perception of “retired vs. working,” even though the truth of modern life paints a very different picture.Let’s be honest — at 60, your responsibilities don’t end. They evolve. Children may have moved out, but they’re still finding their place in the world. Grandchildren are entering your life. Your household still needs guidance and stability. And perhaps most importantly, your experience is richer than ever before. You’re Not Retired from Relevance — You’ve Arrived at WisdomAfter six decades, you may not have the same energy as a 21-year-old, but you bring something far deeper:The calm to navigate challenges The emotional intelligence to connect The groundedness that only years of living can offerYou’re a “slow 21” — but a fantastic one. More deliberate, more thoughtful, and more tuned in to what really matters. The Real Problem: Perception, Not AgeThe tragedy is not in aging — it’s in how we’re made to think about aging. Many people over 60 begin to feel old not because of their bodies, but because of the invisible pressure to step aside. This mindset — subtly reinforced by others and internalized over time — chips away at vitality more than any biological clock. But here’s the truth: today’s 60 is not yesterday’s 60.People are healthier. Life expectancy is longer. Opportunities for engagement are greater. Unless you’re dealing with a serious illness, there’s no reason to dim your light.A Gentle Formula for a Full Life After 60So what does a good day in the second innings look like? Not one of endless rest, but a gentle rhythm of balance:🗣️ Small TalkStay social. A little conversation each day — with family, neighbors, shopkeepers, or old friends — keeps the spirit alive. It keeps loneliness out and laughter in.By having a light conversation with an acquaintance or stranger, people can feel more connected with one another and have a stronger sense of community.India, where we live in age old Mohallas and have rooted connection with each other,it is much easier. The social media chats can never replace the original small talks! 🚶 Long WalksMovement is life. A daily walk not only strengthens the body but also clears the mind. It’s where you notice the seasons changing, people passing by, and your own thoughts taking shape. If these are coupled with small talks ,even better. As they say–“We walk to remember. We walk to forget. We walk because it’s the simplest way to move forward — inside and out.”🧑‍🌾 Light Work,Deep PurposeWhether it’s tending to a home garden, helping with a family business, volunteering, or mentoring — light work gives you purpose without pressure. It keeps the mind sharp and the heart full. Not all work after 60 needs to be physical or financially driven. In fact, offering your time and skills back to your old school, local students, or educational causes — especially without expecting anything in return — can be deeply rewarding. It nurtures a sense of meaning, keeps your mind sharp, and most importantly, anchors you in community and contribution. The joy of teaching, mentoring, or even helping children learn — especially in a place that once shaped you — is often more powerful than any therapy or supplement. It’s not just light work; it’s soul work. The Second Innings Is Yours to ShapeYou are not a leftover from your prime — you are the culmination of it. You carry the wisdom, the scars, the patience, and the resilience that youth hasn’t yet earned.Don’t let outdated roles write your story. The world is changing. And so can the script for what it means to be 60 and beyond.Let this phase be one of joy, simplicity, connection, and quiet purpose.🔁 Have a cup of chai. Take a walk. Laugh with someone. Teach something. Learn something new.You haven’t retired — you’ve just rewired. [...] Read more...
April 29, 2025R.Madhwal Veteran & Farmer For generations, Indian traditions have championed the power of mantra chanting, beej mantras, and early morning spiritual discipline. Yet, in modern India, many still wait for scientific validation from the West before fully embracing these practices. This silent hesitation often sidelines rich indigenous knowledge in favor of externally approved models. But the tide is turning.Today, neuroscience and psychology are beginning to confirm what ancient sages knew intuitively: mantras are powerful tools not only for spiritual growth but also for mental clarity, emotional balance, and physical well-being.Science Is Catching UpResearch published in the Journal of Religion and Health (2018) showed that students exposed to regular mantra chanting reported increased cheerfulness and sharper mental clarity. Another meta-analysis from Perspectives on Psychological Science found that positive self-talk and repetition (which mantras inherently are) significantly improved performance in both cognitive and athletic tasks.Even more compelling, a 2022 review in the International Journal of Yoga linked mantra meditation with lower stress levels, improved heart rate regulation, and reduced anxiety. The Early Morning AdvantageIndian tradition identifies the hours between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. as Brahma Muhurta — a sacred time for learning, meditation, and inner work. Modern science agrees. During these hours, the brain is more likely to be in theta waves, a state linked to creativity, intuition, and deep meditation. Additionally, cortisol levels (stress hormones) are naturally high early in the day, making it the perfect time to calm the system through mantra repetition.A Tool for Mental ResilienceToday’s mental health experts and fitness coaches often promote mantras or motivational affirmations. Why? Because they work. Repeated phrases anchor the mind, interrupt negative loops, and help form lasting, resilient habits.Reclaiming Our LegacyThe real question is: why wait for external approval to embrace what has already been working for millennia? As India balances modern advancement with ancient roots, it’s time we reclaim and celebrate our heritage not only as spiritual tradition, but also as a scientifically validated way of life. The West may be waking up to the power of mantras — but we have the opportunity to lead with it.Start small. Chant in the morning. Listen to the beej mantras. Make space for silence. You don’t need a study to prove it works. You only need to experience it.  [...] Read more...

April 21, 2015Escaping your comfort zone while traveling has benefits that last far beyond your trip. Transformational travel can expand your worldview, help the planet, and positively impact people around you—here’s how. We’ve been hearing a lot about transformational travel (TT) over the past year as a step beyond immersion and experiential travel. But what is it and how can it benefit you? According to the Transformational Travel Council (TTC), “Transformational travel is any travel experience that empowers people to make meaningful, lasting changes in their life.” That can sound pretty broad for anyone unfamiliar with the ideas behind TT, but if you love travel, the concept is well worth exploring.  From what TT means to how to take a trip that changes or pushes your forward in a positive way, here’s what you need to know about transformational travel.WHAT IS TRANSFORMATIONAL TRAVEL?Travel in any form, whether you’re relaxing on a beach in Barbados, backpacking solo through Central America, or taking a business trip to Chicago, can be meaningful. It has the power to transform no matter where you go and for how long. So how does that differ from transformational travel? For starters, it doesn’t necessarily have to. When it comes to transformational travel, it’s not only about where you go and with whom, it’s about tapping into the potential for that trip (be it big or small) to impact you in a positive way that lasts, and that you can use going forward in your daily life. The process of transformational travel is about doing something when you travel that opens your mind in a way that resists closing back up again once you’re home and back into your daily routine. It’s one thing to push yourself beyond your comfort zone, but it’s another thing entirely to then use that experience to learn and grow as a person and apply what you’ve learned or how your worldview has shifted to your life going forward.BENEFITS OF TRANSFORMATIONAL TRAVELThe benefits of transformational travel will be different for everyone, depending on what you hope to gain from your trip. The journey starts with that call to action for something different. Moving on from that, as outlined by the TTC, the next step (referred to as the “initiation” or “road of trials”, is the doing part of things, the part that pushes you outside of your comfort zone whether through a physical, mental or emotional challenge. The third step is the payoff and where the real benefits can be felt. This is what the TTC refers to as “the return and rebirth” which is the positive change you feel upon returning home. That could be anything from a renewed passion for life, to a big “a-ha” moment that leads you to a career change, to a series of life lessons learned that may then bring about an improved overall quality of life or compassion for yourself and others.Something that’s important to keep in mind about transformational travel is that while your travel surroundings are impacting you, you are also impacting your travel surroundings.  Make that impact a positive one on the environment by practicing sustainable, eco-friendly routines (think reducing your carbon footprint with direct flights or bringing reusable silicone bottles for toiletries instead of disposable travel sized items), and spending your travel dollars at businesses that benefit the local economy.IDEAS FOR TRANSFORMATIONAL TRIPS     Ready to go? There are numerous ways to undertake a transformational travel experience. This can include anything from traveling someplace or in a way that is totally different than what you’re used tohere you know or feel comfortable in), (i.e.booking a trip that will challenge you physically (hiking Kilimanjaro, tackling the Annapurna Circuit). Other examples of TT might be immersing yourself in the culture of where you are through engaging with locals, traveling somewhere for spiritual growth, or taking meaningful time during your trip to reflect on how the challenges you’re experiencing are affecting you. Where you go and for how long depends entirely on what you hope to achieve so the possibilities for TT really are endless.THINGS TO REMEMBERThe key to reaping the benefits of transformational travel come down to the ability to reflect and also to sit with any uncomfortable feelings that may come up when going outside of your comfort zone in whichever way you’ve chosen. Sometimes what we learn about ourselves when pushed is positive—other times it’s not. When on a transformational travel journey, it’s important to grow and nourish whatever positive nuggets you uncover and continue to apply them to your daily life. And on the flip side, take those parts that might not be as sunny as you’d like and work to change them in a positive way.Transformational travel offers something different for everyone, but the common theme is positive personal growth. Have you tried transformational travel? Let us know about your experience.Working Meditation The Village resort has a unique atmosphere, where the rhythms of true village living still beat loud, and where the farming and dairy farming are main source of income and ox-cart are still one of the  modes of transport.  Take a leisurely bicycle ride through Teak and Shaal-lined forest road. Your complete stay would feel like one long meditation session!  [...] Read more...

May 15, 2025R.Madhwal Veteran & Farmer🌐 Does the U.S. Own the World — or Just Treat It Like Its Backyard? When President Trump announced a ceasefire between India and Pakistan — on an American platform, in American words — the irony was impossible to miss. There were no visuals of negotiation, no optics of sovereign powers talking. Instead, a Twitter declaration erased India’s hard-earned military success, and elevated the perpetrator, Pakistan, to parity with the victim, India — all to fit a familiar American script.A sovereign nation had won. But the credit was hijacked. The closure India earned was spun into a narrative America controlled. This wasn’t diplomacy. It was a performance. One in which America scripts, directs, and casts itself as both hero and mediator, with trade deals and geopolitical positioning as the real goals — not peace, not justice.⚖️ Conflict Creation as PolicyThis isn’t new. Since the collapse of the USSR, the U.S. has repeatedly intervened not just to stop wars, but to create controlled chaos:Afghanistan: Entered for justice, exited leaving Taliban 2.0. Iraq: Fabricated WMDs. Bombed a nation into ruin. Syria, Libya, Arab Spring: U.S. support led to revolutions that destroyed countries. Pakistan: A partner in terror for decades, openly admitted by its own Defence Minister — yet still funded, armed, and defended. When Trump linked ceasefire to trade, it wasn’t India or Pakistan’s trade he meant —It was America’s.This pattern is not random. It’s an institutionalized doctrine — to maintain hotspots, to fuel the military-industrial complex, to preserve dollar dominance, and to sell the illusion of leadership.🧨 When Victims and Aggressors Are Bracketed TogetherThe gravest insult? Trump bracketed India and Pakistan together. He equated the victim of decades of cross-border terrorism with its chief architect. This wasn’t diplomacy. It was delegitimization — of India’s restraint, of India’s sacrifice, of India’s sovereign right to defend itself.Juxtapose that with Pakistan’s own Defence Minister admitting:“We did terrorism for America for 30 years.”Not in a memoir. In office. On record. Yet no outrage, no sanction, no accountability.🧭 Who Really Runs the World?Let’s ask hard questions:Was Ukraine truly a war of defense, or a provoked proxy battle? Will the ceasefire also come from Washington — again? Was the Cold War’s end a moment of peace — or the start of American monopolization? The U.S. establishment decides:Who gets bombed.Who is called “terrorist.”Who must show restraint.Who gets to declare peace.India is told not to retaliate. Yet America bombs across oceans.Pannu threatens Indian airlines from U.S. soil — but walks free.Is this justice? Or is it hierarchy?🛡️ The Real Global DangerThe real danger is not Pakistan’s terrorism alone. It’s the superpower that enables it, controls the narrative, and profits from instability.Until the world is multipolar, and until sovereign victories are respected,no ceasefire is peace. No tweet is truth. And no global policeman can be trusted with the keys to justice. May 7, 2025R.Madhwal Veteran & Farmer Pakistan’s Information Minister, Ataullah Tarar, appeared on Sky News and faced rigorous questioning from journalist Yalda Hakim. She not just roasted him but entire Pakistan.During the interview, Tarar asserted that Pakistan is a victim of terrorism and emphasized the country’s role as a “frontline state against terrorism.” However, Hakim challenged Tarar’s statements by referencing earlier admissions from Pakistan’s Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif. Asif had acknowledged in a previous interview that Pakistan had supported terrorist organizations for decades, describing it as doing the “dirty work” for the United States and the West. Hakim highlighted this contradiction, questioning the credibility of Pakistan’s claims of being solely a victim of terrorism. The interview has drawn significant global attention and, unlike coverage by outlets such as BBC and CNN, clearly highlights the deep-rooted nature of terrorism within Pakistan. Sky News journalist Yalda Hakim demonstrates remarkable journalistic acumen as she firmly presses Pakistan’s Information Minister, Ataullah Tarar, exposing contradictions and holding him accountable with undeniable facts. April 26, 2025R.Madhwal Veteran & Farmer Silence now may cost global unity later!!. Pahalgam is not just a message to India — it is a warning to every multicultural, secular nation across the globe. General Munir’s speech is not mere rhetoric; it is an ideological challenge to the foundations of peaceful coexistence. When a state leader declares that religious difference justifies separation, it becomes a message of division for every country where Muslims live as peaceful citizens. In any proper democracy, the army chief should only follow the elected civilian government’s directives. When the Army Chief Talks, Is Pakistan’s Civilian Government Still Relevant?Key Excerpts and Ideological Grounding Asim Munir, speaking at the Overseas Pakistani Convention in Islamabad on April 16, 2025, delivered a speech laden with historical and ideological undertones. His speech invoked the foundational Islamic identity of Pakistan, drawing direct parallels between the formation of Pakistan and the State of Medina. “Pakistan is one of two nations that have been formed on the basis of the kalma. One is the state of Medina and 1,300 years later, Pakistan.” He referred to Pakistan as a nation built on superior ideology and culture: “You are the country’s ambassadors and must not forget that you belong to a superior ideology and culture.” General Munir further revived the Two-Nation Theory, emphasizing irreconcilable differences between Hindus and Muslims: “Our forefathers believed that we were different from Hindus in every possible aspect of life. Our religion is different. Our customs are different. Our traditions are different. Our thoughts are different. Our ambitions are different.” Lastly, he reiterated Pakistan’s traditional stance on Kashmir: “Kashmir is our jugular vein. We will not forget it.” Implications and Contradictions General Munir’s speech, while aimed at affirming national pride, introduces contradictions especially when addressing a diaspora audience. Overseas Pakistanis often live in multicultural societies where integration, cultural respect, and adaptability are key to professional and social success. By labeling Pakistan’s culture as “superior,” and placing emphasis on religious identity and ideological purity, the speech risks alienating those who have successfully integrated abroad. It may even place them in an internal conflict — caught between patriotic sentiment and the realities of their adopted homes. Moreover, this speech dangerously revives sectarian rhetoric: Muslims and Hindus are framed as entirely different nations. The difference is stated to be as stark as “chalk and cheese.” Kashmir is declared not just an issue, but a sacred obligation. Pakistani children are urged to internalize these ideological divides. Sacrifices are demanded, hinting at future confrontations. This rhetoric isn’t merely symbolic. It is provocative, suggesting that Kashmir should remain a flashpoint, and that Indian Muslims, by implication, should seek a new partition. It is a call not for peace but for ideological polarization. Global Impact and Strategic Warnings General Munir’s assertions directly challenge not only India’s secular identity and territorial integrity, but also global democratic and pluralistic values. His speech signals a shift — perhaps the most explicit yet — in Pakistan’s strategic posture. No longer veiled behind the so-called “deep state,” this is a loud, clear ideological declaration by the head of its armed forces. The implications are immense: For India: This is a direct challenge to its secular framework, its Kashmir policy, and its unity. For the World: If Pakistan positions itself as incompatible with pluralism, what does that mean for global peace? For Overseas Pakistanis: Integration vs. isolation — General Munir’s speech creates a philosophical rift between allegiance to their homeland and harmony with their host countries. In essence, rather than encouraging Pakistani expatriates to act as goodwill ambassadors, this speech suggests rigid allegiance to a singular identity. It discourages cultural integration and challenges the very idea of co-existence in diverse societies. This is a watershed moment — not just in Indo-Pak relations, but in how the world must view Pakistan’s ideological trajectory. The mask is off. The declaration is open. Now, the response must be equally clear-eyed and collective. What makes someone like General Asim Munir far more dangerous than the ideology he promotes is his position: the head of one of the most powerful militaries in the Islamic world, in control of nuclear assets, and commanding a vast influence over the Pakistani state and its people. In theory ,actually not legitimate in a so called Democratic Pakistan. He is not a fringe cleric or an obscure preacher — he is the system. When such a figure openly espouses exclusivist, supremacist rhetoric — declaring religious superiority, rejecting pluralism, and invoking violent historical justifications — it becomes a strategic doctrine, not just a personal belief. The tragedy is that the world often looks for overt acts of terror to raise alarms, ignoring that ideas, when institutionalized, become more dangerous than bullets. Munir’s words were not accidental. They were carefully chosen, targeted, and delivered to a diaspora with global reach — with the potential to sow division, suspicion, and conflict in India and in other societies where integration is already fragile. The proof manifested in Pahalgam immediately. He is the accused Number one hiding behind a civilian govt of Pakistan So the question is not just “Will the world take note?” — it must be, “How long can we afford to ignore warning signs delivered from podiums of power?” [...] Read more...
April 24, 2025local and global geopolitics shapes the everyday lives of the common man.R.Madhwal Veteran & FarmerThe Problem – Kashmir and Pakistan’s Message If Kashmir flourishes, who feels threatened? That’s the uncomfortable question few dare to ask. It’s time to stop simplifying the Kashmir issue and acknowledge the far more troubling reality — this is no longer just about a “deep state.” It’s a full-scale ideological, geopolitical, and existential challenge. Pakistan has long sent a clear signal — Kashmir is not your backyard. They view it as a symbolic frontline and strategic pawn. This goes beyond territorial conflict; it is a national obsession deeply embedded in political and cultural narratives. What’s more alarming is the world’s ongoing failure to understand the depth of this threat. Kashmir has served as Pakistan’s testing ground for terrorism, yet international focus remains locked on superficial narratives or misplaced sympathies. The result? A dangerous blind spot. The Ideology – Kalma as a Weapon This is not about missiles or troop movements alone — this is a war of ideas and beliefs. In Pakistan’s ideological conflict, even faith itself is weaponized. If you are a Muslim but don’t conform to their version of the Kalma, you are seen as expendable. A sacred phrase — meant to unify — is now used to separate life from death. This is not Islam versus other religions. It’s not about Kashmir alone. This is Pakistan versus Hindus, Muslims, Christians, atheists — anyone who refuses to adopt its radical script. The real war is ideological, and it infects every layer of Pakistan’s system — from education to national rhetoric. Indian strategic discourse, meanwhile, remains fragmented. Blame games targeting internal elements — deep state, community biases, or systemic issues — only create confusion. Adversaries thrive in this disunity. Pakistan sings while we debate. Let’s not be vague: the reason the world remains unsafe today can be summarized in three words — Pakistan, Pakistan, and Pakistan. The Global Call – Confronting the Source We must stop blaming Islam, Kashmir, or any religion as a whole. The issue isn’t faith — it’s the state-sponsored exploitation of faith for terror. Pakistan has mastered this dark craft and has embedded it into its governance model. Surgical strikes or diplomatic overtures won’t suffice. The source of terrorism is not nestled in Kashmir’s valleys but deep within Pakistan’s ideological framework. The state, its regime, and its radical educational machinery have to be named, shamed, and stopped. This is not just India’s fight. The global community must act decisively. The United States, historically an enabler of Pakistan’s duplicity, must now choose: continue shielding a radical regime, or take a stand for global peace. The time for silence is over. The world must unite to pin down Pakistan not as a misunderstood neighbor, but as the epicenter of radical extremism. Until that happens, there will be no peace — not in Kashmir, not in India, not anywhere. [...] Read more...
June 8, 2024R.Madhwal Veteran & Farmer Experienced Leaders for a Strong Government. Results of Loksabha elections 2024, did come as a surprise to many since BJP did not get majority of it’s own. The political pandits declared return of India to weak coalition politics of 1990s. However, scratch the surface and dive deep into facts and you would realise that this is not by accident but more of a divine path  laid by Ram for India in the year of his Pran  Pratishta in his birth place in  Ayodhya! In most polarised environments due to misinformation spread in respect of EVMs and changing of constitution ,a call for revolt was given by opposition if NDA crossed 400. This was nearly certain to happen in pockets of North India and would have taken all the energies of new Govt for next one or two years. That EVMs are perfect was only proven paradoxically when opposition did not get mandate to form the govt.In short,  this coalition governments can reduce tensions by ensuring that diverse viewpoints are included in governance, promoting unity and social cohesion.Narendra Modi’s potential strength in a third term would likely stem from his extensive experience, continuity in policy implementation, economic and social development initiatives, strong leadership, and effective communication. These factors combined could reinforce his ability to govern effectively and maintain public support.Born in 1951/52, in their early seventies ,this troika of Narendra,Naidu and Nitish is going to give this country two block buster shows one in this term and next one in 2029,make no mistake they are here for a long haul.  Why this is a dream team? No conflict of interest– In political landscape ,there is no race between them .CM Naidu is undisputed leader of AP and same is true for CM Nitish In Bihar. No conflicts in vision-With both CMs passionately focused on development of their own states and PM more than willing to go that extra mile ,the roadmap is clear.PM Modi’s connect with masses- During campaigning all the NDA allies have noticed the excellent connect of PM with Masses.Pre Poll Alliance– With BJP stiching the alliance before polls, the post poll glitches were not encountered. This did cement the alliance.Mature and experienced leaders- Between them, they have experienced all ups and downs of politics.Optics of consesus politics- Though it was always a NDA govt, but the majority of BJP on it’s own became a reason for levelling autocratic charges against PM.With the current optics of coalition ,there would be more broad based acceptance of decisions. All three looking forward to 2029 -Since in good health and spirit, they would definitely go for 2029 and know the importance of success of Modi3.0. No Intra Party threat– All three are  accepted leaders of their respective parties and have no challenges there.A full time PM-Free of political survival threats or compulsion to keep flock together,PM can devout 100% energies to governance!Seasoned and unbroken 3rd term-Deep Institutional Knowledge due to continuity in governance gives tremendous advantage to the PM.Funds and FDI– The swiftness of cabinet formation and speeches in NDA parliamentary board clearly show the priorities of both Naidu ,they would seek funds and FDI rather than getting ministerial post . Watershed moment - defining the future course of India!! Optics and perception are critical because they shape how actions and events are viewed by various stakeholders. Positive optics can build trust, credibility, and support, while negative optics can lead to mistrust, criticism, and adverse outcomes. The inherent strength of this NDA govt is not only in  pan India composition but the fact that great optics are going to be it’s biggest strength.!  [...] Read more...
May 13, 2024R.Madhwal Veteran & Farmer Kids in India always had play-base childhoods in our cities and villages , but we gradually let that fade away because of rapid urbanisation and pressure of home work beginning in the 1980s and 1990s, Which was further compounded by technology. In the 1990s, we thought the internet was going to make our children smarter. Because most of us were techno-optimists, we didn’t really raise alarms when our kids started spending four, five, six and now seven to nine hours a day on their phones and other screens.  Actually, we’ve overprotected our children in the real world and we’ve under-protected them online. And for both halves of that, you can see how we did that thinking that it was going to be OK. We were wrong on both points. Now we’re a few years past Covid-19, past the school closures, past the masks, and what has become clear to everyone is that kids are not all right. And the data on rates of mental illness shows us that most of the increase was in place long before Covid-19 arrived. What are the norms that will solve this crisis? 1: No smartphones before 12th. We must clear them out of middle school and high school. 2: No social media until 16. These platforms were not made for children. They appear to be especially harmful for children. Establish rules around screen time and social media use. Define specific times when devices are allowed and when they’re off-limits. 3. Children often mimic what they see. If they see adults spending excessive time on their phones or social media, they’re likely to do the same. Set a good example by limiting your own screen time and engaging in offline activities. 4. Provide plenty of opportunities for children to engage in offline activities such as reading, sports, arts and crafts, or spending time outdoors. Encourage hobbies and interests that don’t involve screens. 5. Teach children about the potential risks associated with excessive screen time and social media use, such as cyberbullying, privacy issues, and addiction. Encourage open communication so they feel comfortable discussing any concerns they may have. 6. Instead of simply restricting their access, engage with children in activities that involve meaningful interaction and learning. This could include playing games together, exploring nature, or having conversations about their interests and experiences. By implementing these strategies, parents and caregivers can help minimize children’s reliance on mobile devices and social media while promoting healthy habits and development. [...] Read more...
May 2, 2024R.Madhwal Veteran & FarmerRestrictive diets are a way of eating that reduces calories to below someone’s energy needs and/or limits the macronutrients or food groups a person eats.Such diets aren’t sustainable,. You might not get your calorie or nutrient needs, or they might encourage bingeing behaviors and could lead to unhealthy relationships with food and your body. But how do you know when a diet is restrictive or when you are just making choices with health or longevity in mind? There are good rules of thumb. If you find that you base your choices on hopes of losing weight or if your diet excludes whole food groups, you are likely on a restrictive diet. How often are you thinking about food? One way to evaluate your diet is to look at how much you are thinking about food. With a health-conscious lifestyle, you might be able to eat what your body needs and move forward. But when under a restrictive diet, people tend to obsess over what they ate, what they will eat and the shame they feel after they have eaten. How rigid are you?Another good gauge is your flexibility around the style of eating you are following. There’s a difference between a preference for eating or a way of eating that makes somebody feel good versus a set of rigid rules that have to be followed. There are certain health conditions in which a food needs to be cut out entirely, but otherwise you can give yourself permission to approach the food in question in a more balanced way.For example, if you are trying to limit Chicken — are you saying that you will never have chicken again, or can you be comfortable adding salads ,vegetables and nuts to the Chicken gravy alongside the chicken, so you are eating less of it?“Instead of looking at what you can cut out,” Food experts say, “look at what you can add in.”Can you have just a little bit?If you put all these rules around certain foods, you’re going to feel like feast or famine on that food.Feeling as if you can’t control yourself around particular foods might be a sign that you are being too restrictive in your diet. And that can be physically restrictive by not allowing yourself to eat the food or mentally restrictive by shaming yourself while eating it and afterward.Moving away from restrictionThe goal is to remove the mystique of demonized foods so you can make choices based on what your body needs rather than what your brain is scared it won’t be able to get again.Nevertheless, there are health conditions such as allergies in which foods do have to be cut out entirely. Be sure to follow your doctor’s advice in those cases. [...] Read more...
May 1, 2024R MadhwalR.Madhwal Veteran & FarmerIn a world where culinary innovation meets sustainability, the future of food beckons with many possibilities. One of those is turning discarded chicken feathers into edible proteins, a London-based company, Kera Protein Ltd, turns discarded chicken feathers from poultry factories into edible proteins that mimic the consistency, taste, and appearance of high-quality meat. The company behind the project, has a unique approach to its lab-produced protein product. It turns discarded waste from the poultry industry into fake meat through an intensive 13-step hydrolysis process. The feather-meat protein could help address at least one sustainability issue plaguing the food industry: excess waste. As much as millions of tons of poultry feathers are wasted each year, usually incinerated or dumped into landfill. One of the biggest challenges is production costs – a common issue for alternative meats, including lab grown meat. The feathers must undergo a 34-hour extraction process, which is both time consuming and financially strenuous. Eating a dish made out of chicken feathers would surely make vegans wonder if they’re still technically vegetarians.!!!

April 20, 2015Vacation, in English-speaking North America, describes recreational travel, such as a short pleasure trip, or a journey abroad. People in Commonwealth countries use the term holiday to describe absence from work as well as to describe a vacation or journey. Vacation can mean either staying home or going somewhere. Canadians often use vacation and holiday interchangeably referring to a trip away from home or time off work. In Australia and the UK, holiday can refer to a vacation or a public holiday. The Vanderbilts, Rockefellers, Carnegies, Huntingtons and other fabulously wealthy industrialists built their own spectacular “great camps” in the Adirondacks of upstate NY where they could disport with their families in private luxury. The American vacation was born—quite literally. The scions of New York City took to declaring that they would “vacate” their city homes for their lakeside summer retreats, and the term “vacation” replaced the British “holiday” in common parlance. In Hungarian, the word vakáció can mean both a recreational trip, an officially granted absence from work (generally in warmer months), and the summer (longest) school break. For absence from work, the word szabadság (freedom/liberty) can be used, possibly as betegszabadság (sickness freedom/sickness liberty) when the reason of absence is medical in nature. Whenever I get asked to recommend a destination for honeymoon, I always have the same reply. If you are looking for sun, luxury and a trip of a lifetime……there is only one place for me…..Cancun, Mexico. Cancun is the sort of destination that has something for everyone. My husband loves to be adventurous and active on holidays, whereas I like to chill out and switch off. When we were deciding on where we would like to go on honeymoon, we went through many destinations until we found this one that matched our criteria. We booked with American Holidays and took in a few days in Orlando before flying out to Cancun. We booked at an event that American Holidays run every year. They have the Red Cow Sale which is held in the Red Cow Moran Hotel in Dublin but my understanding is that they roll out the deals online too. We saved just over €1000 on our package. April 28, 2025Veteran, farmer, and observer of geopolitics, dedicated to understanding the global and local impacts of social, political, and health systems.R.Madhwal Veteran & Farmer Introduction:The growing evidence linking ultra processed food to a higher risk of premature death has raised alarm worldwide. According to a new meta-analysis of over 240,000 individuals(in USA), every additional bite of ultra processed food increases the likelihood of an early death. The NOVA classification system, which categorizes food based on the level of processing, has been central to understanding the impact of what we eat on our long-term health. In this article, we explore how India’s food habits, particularly in the context of street food, may be deceptively unhealthy, despite not always fitting into the traditional definition of ultraprocessed food. The NOVA Classification:The NOVA classification system was developed by researchers at the University of São Paulo in Brazil and divides foods into four groups based on the extent of processing. Here’s a breakdown of these groups, with examples from Indian cuisine:🥇 Group 1: Unprocessed or Minimally Processed FoodsNatural foods with minimal processing.Examples (Indian):Fresh fruits (e.g., mango, banana, papaya) Fresh vegetables (e.g., spinach, tomatoes, cauliflower) Whole grains (e.g., brown rice, whole wheat roti) Fresh dairy (e.g., milk, yogurt) Eggs Fresh nuts (e.g., almonds, cashews)Health Impact:⭐⭐⭐ Best for health — Nutrient-dense, high in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Protective against diseases like obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.🥈 Group 2: Processed Culinary IngredientsExtracted substances from Group 1 foods used in cooking.Examples (Indian):Ghee Mustard oil, coconut oil Jaggery, refined sugar Salt, honey Tamarind paste VinegarHealth Impact:⭐ Useful in moderation — Essential for flavor and proper cooking. However, overuse (especially of sugar, salt, and oil) can be harmful.🥉 Group 3: Processed FoodsGroup 1 foods with added ingredients like sugar, salt, oils.Examples (Indian):Paneer (Indian cottage cheese) Cheese Bread (e.g., white bread, pav) Pickles (often with high salt content) Canned vegetables (e.g., tinned peas) Sweets (e.g., ladoo, burfi) Canned fruit juices (not fresh)Health Impact:⚠️ Acceptable if eaten occasionally — Moderate processing. Overconsumption can lead to high blood pressure, weight gain, and metabolic diseases.🚫 Group 4: Ultra-Processed Foods (UPFs)Industrial formulations of ingredients, often with additives like colors, flavors, and preservatives.Examples (Indian):Instant noodles (e.g., Maggi, Top Ramen) Packaged snacks (e.g., chips, namkeen, biscuits) Soft drinks (e.g., Coca-Cola, Pepsi) Packaged fruit juices (with added sugars, preservatives) Fast food (e.g., burgers, pizza from fast food chains) Frozen foods (e.g., frozen pizzas, ready-to-eat meals) Ice creams (store-bought, with artificial additives) Packaged energy drinks (e.g., Red Bull, Mountain Dew)Health Impact:❌ Linked to obesity, heart disease, diabetes — Best to minimize these foods as they are nutrient-poor and packed with unhealthy fats, sugars, and chemicals. The Hidden Dangers of Street Food: Momo, Pani Puri, and MoreIn India, many foods that do not fit the NOVA classification as ultra processed may still pose significant health risks. Consider momos and pani puri — these are beloved street foods, yet they carry hidden dangers:Momos: While they may seem like a simple snack made from dough and meat or vegetables, they are often made in unhygienic conditions, with poor-quality ingredients. In many street vendors, there’s little to no traceability in terms of ingredient sourcing, hygiene standards, and food safety protocols. The high amounts of oil and preservatives used in the sauces and fillings make them far more harmful than they appear at first glance. Pani Puri: Known for its flavor, pani puri is another street food that can be deceiving. While it doesn’t look like ultra processed food, the water used in preparing the puris is often contaminated with bacteria, and the fillings may be made from low-quality ingredients. Despite not being packaged or “ultra processed,” they still carry significant health risks due to poor hygiene and the use of artificial additives. The Real Impact of Street FoodWhile it’s true that many Indian foods are not as ultra processed as those in the West, street food such as momos and pani puri rank among the most dangerous in terms of health risks. Though they may not be packaged or processed in the traditional sense, they still pose a major health hazard due to:Lack of Hygiene: Most street vendors operate in environments with poor sanitation, increasing the risk of foodborne illnesses. Unregulated Ingredients: Many of the ingredients used, especially oils and additives, are not standardized or quality-controlled. Chemical Additives: Even though they may not look like ultraprocessed foods, these street foods often contain additives to enhance taste and texture, making them unhealthy. What Can You Do?Prioritize Fresh, Whole Foods: Stick to the natural, unprocessed options in Group 1. The healthier your diet, the more protected you’ll be from diseases like obesity, heart disease, and diabetes. Be Mindful of Street Food: If you must indulge in street food, choose vendors that maintain good hygiene standards, and avoid frequent consumption of items like momos and pani puri that are often made in less-than-ideal conditions. Limit Processed and Ultra-Processed Foods: Moderation is key when it comes to Group 2, 3, and 4 foods. Avoid consuming soft drinks, fast food, and snack foods on a regular basis. Conclusion:The rising trend of ultra processed foods globally is concerning, and it’s essential to be aware of what we eat. In India, we may not consume ultraprocessed foods as frequently as in Western countries, but we still consume a large amount of unhealthy foods in the form of street food. These may not fit neatly into the ultraprocessed category, but their hygiene issues, low-quality ingredients, and use of additives make them more dangerous than they appear. Let’s be mindful of what we eat and prioritize whole, unprocessed foods for better health. [...] Read more...
